“Alicia is a FORCE.”

-Dom Cutrupi, Director

Alicia Read is an American-Canadian actor and producer whose screen work has reached more than 300 million viewers across leading vertical microdrama platforms including ReelShort, GoodShort, and DramaWave. In fall 2025, she produced and co-starred in the first Canadian ReelShort Original. Known for emotionally intelligent performances and broad creative range, she has emerged as one of the defining faces of the vertical microdrama format.

Born on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Alicia began her career as a child co-star in Foufouli, a Canadian television series written, produced, and starring her mother. Graduating from formal training at Vancouver’s Gastown Actors Studio in the late 1990s, she joined John Juliani’s Savage Gods: The Shakespeare Project, grounding her work in classical text, ensemble practice, and rigorous character development.

After becoming a mother, Alicia stepped away from the entertainment industry to raise her child as a single parent, and went on to spend two decades as a creative leader in the luxury beauty industry, founding the sales and marketing agency Kalosophie. There, she guided emerging and established brands from early growth through acquisition readiness, securing prestige media coverage, retail partnerships, and domestic and international distribution, experience that continues to inform her strategic approach to storytelling, brand building, and audience connection.

Returning to acting in 2022, Alicia now operates at the intersection of performance, production, and industry leadership. She serves as Executive Partner at Type Eh Media, where she consults and speaks publicly on the evolution of vertical microdramas, and is a co-founder of the Vertical Film & Short Series Alliance (VFSSA), a professional organization advocating for best practices, standards, and long-term economic stability within the format.

ACCOLADES

I knew when I referred Alicia for the lead role that she would nail it. She carried the emotional weight of the story with depth, precision, and grace. Her ability to hit technically demanding marks for the vertical format while delivering grounded, emotionally rich performances was remarkable. She came to set fully prepared, but also brought incredible instincts and improvisation skills that gave her co-stars so much to work with.

Beyond her talent, Alicia was a steady, positive presence through long 12-hour days: kind, generous, and attentive to everyone on set. She not only knows her way around a production, she elevates it.

I’m so excited that verticals are opening to mid-life actors. Alicia is a force, and one of the faces who will help legitimize this new format.
